It’s always a bit embarrassing to write about your own work, especially when it’s such a simple and seemingly insignificant drawing. Yet over the years, I’ve learned to trust the process of letting a drawing happen while in what my friend @joebe_art calls a “painting trance,” and then reading it later. Like a dream, this drawing carries a message. Here’s my best attempt at interpreting it.

I see contrasting figures, embracing. Dark earth and light sky. A duality, perhaps even a paradox. The interplay between the graphite and the burnt lines creates an unexpected tension - one figure softly sketched, delicate and natural, while the other feels carved, scorched into existence, raw and jagged. Yet, despite their contrasting forms, they entwine, sharing space in a way that suggests both intimacy and fragility. There’s brokenness here, yes, but also a deep sense of love, as if these figures are bound by something invisible - something stronger than the forces pulling them apart. It’s as though the drawing whispers about the complexities of relationships, where closeness and pain coexist, where destruction and creation are inseparable.
