Artemis & Orion

Artemis

Artemis had many breasts,
Six or seven one might guess.

Shot Orion through the heart,
Couldn’t bare to be apart.

Weeping Art and Sparkling Or,
Two good hunters I adore.

Cadmean Vixen

Cadmean Vixen is a gigantic fox that will never be caught. To destroy this beast is an impossible task.

Zeus fetched the magical dog Laelaps, who was destined to catch everything it chased, but the circle could not be closed. Faced with an inevitable contradiction due to the paradoxical nature of their mutually excluding abilities, Zeus turned the two beasts into stone.

Actaeon accidentally saw Artemis naked while she was bathing in the woods. Amazed at her beauty he approached closer and was spotted by the goddess, who told him not to speak again or he would change into a deer. Upon hearing his hunting dogs, however, Actaeon called them and immediately transformed into a deer. He ran into the woods, but his dogs found him and tore him to pieces.

The myth of Actaeon was considered to represent human sacrifice in an effort to appease a deity.
