David, an icon of Renaissance art, isn’t just a symbol of victory and beauty. Behind this serene marble facade lies a whirlwind of controversy and power plays.

Did you know that Michelangelo’s David was originally a political statement?

Positioned in Florence’s public square, it glared towards Rome, a defiant symbol of Florentine independence against the Medici’s and Rome’s growing influence. This wasn’t just art; it was a bold political chess move in marble, capturing a moment of intense rivalry and civic pride.

My David is not that important, but it certainly is a statement. This is a sinking David, submerged is something transparent.
